Description
The first file contains correspondence and other papers relating to the 1996 edition of Kevin Crossley-Holland's children's book 'The Green Children.' The file in which these items were originally held was labelled 'Publication folder- The Green Children (1996- new version). Do not confuse with earlier 1966 version.' Includes papers grouped as follows:
- Correspondence marked Teiheisha, comprising 1 ts letter from Hannah Robertson at Oxford University Press (12 Sept 1995) and 1 ts letter from Takuichi Shinagawa at Taiheisha Ltd (3 Aug 1995)
- Correspondence marked Agent, including 10 ts and ms letters between Crossley-Holland and literary agents Rogers, Coleridge & White (22 July 1992-16 April 1997)
- 1 sheet of ms notes marked Alan Marks
- Correspondence marked Oxford University Press, including 81 ts and ms letters between Crossley-Holland and Ron Heapy at Oxford University Press (31 May 1995-5 March 1997)
- Correspondence marked Personal, comprising 12 items of correspondence from fans and personal contacts regarding The Green Children (ca. 5 Feb 1994 - 27 Aug 1997)
- Papers grouped as Dummy and Drafts, with ms dummy of The Green Children
- Group of papers marked Research etc., with 3ff ts and ms notes and plot outlines
- 1st proof, with Crossley-Holland's ms notes and corrections
- Proofs/copies of the cover for the paperback edition of The Green Children, and proofs/examples of illustrations.
The second file contains correspondence to and from KCH regarding The Green Children: from children and adult readers; from literary agents, publishers, and other regarding KCH Arts Council award for best young children's book award 1966-1968; and from the original illustrator Margaret Gordon. Letters from and to publishers including Macmillan, Seabury Press, E.P Dutton and Co. and Farrar, Straus & Giroux, regarding printing and publishing of The Green Children, and the BBC regarding its appearance on Jackanory. Notes on rough drafts of The Green Children, and typewritten proposal and synopsis of the book. The file also contains a programme from the Hadleigh Amateur Dramatic Society production of The Green Children by Mona Bruce, a copy of Sacheverell Sitwell's version of the story: 'For Want of a Golden City', and three photographs of children's drawings of the green children.
