Description

Papers of the psychiatrist Max Isserlin, includes: journals and papers on psychological and medical subjects; correspondence files; working papers; case histories and medical reports; photographs and personal papers. This includes: Published work of some of Isserlin’s collaborators in the Heckscher Clinic (Gräfin von Kuneburg and Lotmar) and some other contemporary publications from physiologists and neurologists (mainly on language pathology) from 1918 to early 1930s; correspondence between Isserlin and Daniel O’Brein and ‘Herr Letort’, directors of European office of the Rockefeller Foundation in Paris (1935-1939); letters from and to Isserlin (Minkowski, Mayer-Gross, Grillo, among other colleagues), mainly concerning the finances of the Heckscher Clinic (1930s); published articles on Isserlin’s agrammatism studies (late 1920s); photo album from survivor soldiers and officers from WWI (some had been patients of Isserlin), which was given to Isserlin as a present for his 50th birthday. It also includes some of Isserlin’s personal files (‘Personalakte’) and notes from the time he worked in mobile units (‘Reservelazarett’) for the treatment of head-wounded soldiers in Bavaria (1915-1917); case studies and files of patients, most of them aphasics. From the 1920s, there are psychological reports with children and adults; personal and family correspondence from 1933 to 1938, mostly between Isserlin and his daughter Beate.
