The leaf is printed on paper and comprises four complete columns on two sides. The text is 2 Samuel 20-21.


Headlines supplied in red and blue.


Capital strokes supplied in red.


The major initial on the verso is supplied in blue.


The chapter number on the verso is supplied in red and blue.


Bindings


The leaf is preserved in a light brown buckram case. Gold-tooled on the front of the case are the words: A leaf from the Gutenberg Bible - Mainz, 1450.

Provenance

Coloured armorial bookplate of Sir Edward Allen Brotherton on the inside cover of the buckram case enclosing the item. The leaf was most likely acquired before 17 June 1929 when Brotherton was created Baron Brotherton of Wakefield.
