There are very few dated entries which the scribe did not copy out of other writings. The earliest entry records the death of the scribe’s son in 1846 (see below in Summary and Contents:); the latest one refers to an accounting note: “London December 3 1862 Mr. Peatre”.
Item is most likely written by the same hand as MS Roth *741, *742, and *744. Like MS Roth *744, the item contain rules for English pronunciation explained in German (see below Summary and Contents:).
Summary and Contents:
The identity of the notebook’s writer could not be established. It is possible that he was emigrant to England from Eastern Europe who took the name Barnett which inscribed in MS Roth *745 (see below Former owners and annotations) as well as MS Roth 744. The family register which he copied out of his father’s writings as well as the fact that he copied one of Abraham Lipman’s work might indicate a relationship to the author.
The mostly private notebook, a small part of which relates to the business of an unidentified Jewish community (likely in the UK), contains drafts of sermons on weekly portions (see, for example, דיזע סדרה קאמט פאר פרשת בכורים : והיה כי תבוא (folio 44), נצבים (folio 53), שבת תשובה (folio 66r) with expositions on Talmud, Midrash, Zohar (see, for example, folios 33v and 65r); texts are mostly in Hebrew and Aramaic with some Yiddish paraphrases and expositions.
There are also family registers (see below); notes on readings; et cetera.
Folios 11r-23v: Nearly complete copy of Abraham ben Eliezer Lipman Lichtstein’s ספר אשל מגדנות (Zolkiew, 1808); beginning with תנובות מגדנות and ending with בקור מעש (=folios [2r]–[26r] of the printed edition).
Folios 99v–100r, 106r–109v, 149: Accounting notes and lists relating to Jewish community matters with names of community members mostly in Hebrew but also in Latin letters (108r and 149v): Lists of donations? in Kisleṿ and Ṭevet; for חברא מקרא (folio 99r); donations pledges (נדרים) likely for aliyot organised according to weekly portions (98v–100); et cetera.

Binding
Full brown leather over boards cover of upper and lower board are block-stamped with arabesque pattern in panel design; spine is gilt-lettered with "MS Roth 745". Binding underwent conservation work. Held in a custom-made box covered with brown cloth.
