Incomplete; text contains only gates 27–30, and part of gate 27 and 31:

1. folios 1r–4v: [שער האותיות], that is, gate 27, chapters 25–27 (incomplete).

2. folios 4v–11r: שער הנקודות, that is, gate 28, chapters 1–6 (complete).

3. folios 11r–15v: שער הטעמים, that is, gate 29, chapters 1–5 (complete).

4. folios 16r–26v: שער הצירוף, that is gate 30, chapters 1–9 (complete).

5. folios 26v–44v: שער נשמה, that is gate 31, chapters1–10 (incomplete; most of the text is scarcely legible).


State of text: Incomplete with beginning and end missing; water damages causes substantial loss of text on nearly every extant page; on folios 35–44 most of the text is not readable anymore; item underwent extensive conservation work; leaves repaired with tissue and on guards.

Decoration

Oversized leaf with chart of letter permutations (folio 20v); charts with letter permutations also in folios 18v–19v; empty space on folio 21r, likely for another visualisation which was not executed.

Physical characteristics

Foliation: 44; modern pencil foliation, upper left recto; Hebrew foliation, upper left recto, likely by the scribe, is faded on the majority of the leaves (see above State of text); it starts on folio 2 with רכ and is discernible on most folios until folio 24 which is foliated as רמב.

Catchwords: horizontal, on versos.

Number of lines: 25.

Script: Sephardic script.

Ms.: width 144mm height 199mm

Binding

Item was bound by conservation in the 1990s between thin cardboard boards with cloth spine; leaves on guards; originally held in a leather wallet kept with item in a custom-made box covered with brown cloth.
