Sod yesharim was printed for the first time in Venice in 355 (1594 or 1595), followed by several editions in the 17th and 18th century.

State of text: Some staining; relatively well preserved; underwent conservation work.

Decoration

Title page decorated with drawing (inkwork) of an arched gated between two columns (evoking Solomonic columns) with pomegranate design on top.

Physical characteristics

Foliation: i (i is paste-down) + 30 + i (i paste-down); modern pencil foliation, upper left recto; folios 1v, 27 and 30 are blank.

Ruling: frame-ruled; outer bounding lines in plummet; 19 blind-tooled vertical lines (slightly skewed).

Number of lines: generally 19.

Script: Italian Hebrew script.

Ms. codex: width 76mm height 111mm

Binding

17th-century(?) full vellum over boards; part of the ṿidui (וידוי, confession), from אשמנו to עלינו [כי] אמת עשית, is written in ink in geometrical design on cover of upper board; lower board is decorated with blind-tooled lines in the same design, that is, a doubled border whose inner corners are connected with intersecting lines.

Held in a custom-made box covered with brown cloth.
