Description
Hebrew title supplied by cataloguer. English title derived from Roth, "Catalogue", in Alexander Marx: Jubilee Volume, vol. 1 (New York, 1950), no. 118.
Text begins with אתחיל לכתוב פיוטים ופזמונים לימים ושנים לחגים וזמנים ולכלות וחתנים (folio 1r).
Summary:
Written by multiple hands, and on at least two different kinds of paper (folios 117r–142, and 160–166 are written on blue paper different from that of the other quires; the continuation of the text is not interrupted).
Hymns are numbered, most likely by a later hand, with Hebrew letters from א to תקכא, and organised according to the alefbet with most sections having blank leaves at the end for additions which were made at some places.
Index in folios 210r–215r.
Item contains hymns by poets from North-Africa and the wider Mediterranean: אבטליון (folio 2r, and elsewhere), Aharon [ben Avraham Perets] ([אהרן [בן אברהם פרץ) (folio 2r, and elsewhere); Frag'i [ben Nisim Shaṿat] (folio 3r, and elsewhere), Avraham [ben Yosef] Alnaḳar (אברהם אלנקר) (folio 8v, and elsewhere), Raḥamim Sofer (רחמים סופר) (folio 13r, and elsewhere); Avraham [ben Shemuʾel Abulʿafyah] (folio 19v), Daṿid [Pardo] ([דוד [פארדו) (folio 20v), Daṿid ben Aharon Ḥasin (דוד בר אהרן חסין) (folio 21v, and elsewhere), Mosheh Bug'naḥ (משה בוגנאח) (folio 22r, and elsewhere); Nisim ben Menaḥem Yane (נסים בר מנחם יאנא) (folio 25, and elsewhere); Yosef ben Shalom (יוסף בר שלום) (folio 26v, and elsewhere); Yosef Kalfon (יוסף כלפון) (folio 44r); Yosef Ḳaspi (folio 67r, and elsewhere); שמעון לביא (folio 69r, and elsewhere); Ḥai Shelomoh Masʿud (חי שלמה
מסעוד) (folio 79v, and elsewhere), Yiśraʾel [Nag’ara] (folio 108v, and elsewhere); et cetera.
State of text: Worn and damaged with loss of text; item underwent extensive conservation work; many leaves repaired with tissue.
