Koberger's first edition of the lives of the fathers. It is largest of the editions printed before 1480. The only earlier edition was printed at Cassale in 1475 and was very incomplete.
Printed in two columns with 51 lines to a full column.

Features
The major initial on leaf [b2r] has been supplied in blue and decorated with a green border with foliage extending into the inner margin and pen ornamentation in red.
Major initials supplied alternately in red and blue.
Capital strokes, paragraph markers and underlinings supplied in red.
Some leaf edges have been mended.
Some water damage.
This copy is missing the blank leaves.
Bindings
Binding of half pigskin over wooden boards. The upper and lower covers are decorated with a panel of triple fillets containing diagonal triple fillets to form a diamond motif. Written directly onto the pigskin at the top of the upper cover are the letters: V P. The pigskin spine has four raised bands. Written directly onto the spine in the second panel in black ink manuscript are the words: Vitas Patrum. Written directly onto the third panel is the name: Hieronymus. At the base of the spine are the place and date: Nurnberg 1478. The book is fastened with two decorated metal clasps with pigskin straps catching on the upper cover. Size: 418 x292mm. Leaf size: 418 x 280mm.

Written in black ink manuscript above the text on leaf [a2r]: Vita sanctorum Patrum. Cremitarum abbatum et mona[chorum] et Doctrina co[ram] et regularis obseruant.
Written in black ink manuscript at the foot of the first printed leaf [a2r]: Inscriptus catalogo domus S Barbaræ Societatis Iesu Cracovie. The book was once in the possession of the Jesuit Church of St. Barbara in Kraków, Poland.
Coloured armorial bookplate of Sir Edward Allen Brotherton on the front pastedown. The book was most likely acquired before 17 June 1929 when Brotherton was created Baron Brotherton of Wakefield.
