Gold-tooled at the base of the spine are the place and date: Mediolani 1499. The spine from a previous binding, probably eighteenth-century, has been preserved and is pasted onto a leaf inserted at the back of the book. It is divided into eight panels with bands of gold-tooled stylised foliage and each panel is decorated with gold-tooled flowers and other ornamentation. Written in ink manuscript on the tail-edge, now much faded: Suida g. Size: 370 x 265mm. Leaf size: 360 x250mm.
